§3 上帝预备了人类的第一个家庭——我们始祖的伊甸家园,乃是上帝亲自为他们预备的。当他以人心所能想望的一切美物来装饰了那个家庭之后,他便说:“我们要照着我们的形象,按着我们的样式造人。”[1]
§4 God Prepared Mans First Home.--The Eden home of our first parents was prepared for them by God Himself. When He had furnished it with everything that man could desire, He said: Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness. . . . {AH 25.1}[1]
§5 主深爱他最后创造的,也是最高贵的受造之物,并计划使他在完美的世界上有一个完美的居所。但他的旨意并非叫人孑然独居。他说:“那人独居不好,我要为他造一个配偶帮助他。”[2]
§6 The Lord was pleased with this last and noblest of all His creatures, and designed that he should be the perfect inhabitant of a perfect world. But it was not His purpose that man should live in solitude. He said: It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. {AH 25.2}[2]

§8 God Himself gave Adam a companion. He provided an help meet for him--a helper corresponding to him--one who was fitted to be his companion, and who could be one with him in love and sympathy. Eve was created from a rib taken from the side of Adam, signifying that she was not to control him as the head, nor to be trampled under his feet as an inferior, but to stand by his side as an equal, to be loved and protected by him. A part of man, bone of his bone, and flesh of his flesh, she was his second self; showing the close union and the affectionate attachment that should exist in this relation. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one. {AH 25.3}[3]
§9 上帝主持第一次婚礼——第一次婚礼,乃是上帝亲自主持的。可见婚姻制度是由宇宙的创造主所设立的。“婚姻,人人都当尊重。”它是上帝起初给人的恩赐之一,也是人类堕落之后,亚当从乐园中带出来的两个制度之一。人若在婚姻关系上承认并遵守这神圣的原则,婚姻就必成为人间的福乐。婚姻足以保障人类的纯洁和幸福,供给人类社交的需要,并促进人类德、智、体三方面的发展。[4]
§10 First Marriage Performed by God.--God celebrated the first marriage. Thus the institution has for its originator the Creator of the universe. Marriage is honourable; it was one of the first gifts of God to man, and it is one of the two institutions that, after the fall, Adam brought with him beyond the gates of Paradise. When the divine principles are recognized and obeyed in this relation, marriage is a blessing; it guards the purity and happiness of the race, it provides for mans social needs, it elevates the physical, the intellectual, and the moral nature. {AH 25.4}[4]
§11 那位将夏娃赐与亚当作内助的主,他的第一个神迹,就是在一次婚礼中施行的。在摆设婚筵的厅堂中,当亲友们欢然共聚之时,基督就开始从事为公众传道服务的工作。如此,他认可了婚姻制度,并视之为他自己所制订的圣礼。[5]
§12 He who gave Eve to Adam as a helpmeet performed His first miracle at a marriage festival. In the festal hall where friends and kindred rejoiced together, Christ began His public ministry. Thus He sanctioned marriage, recognizing it as an institution that He Himself had established. . . . {AH 26.1}[5]
§13 基督极其尊重婚姻的关系,以之象征他与他所救赎之民的关系。他自己是新郎,教会则是新妇,论到他所拣选的,他如此说:“我的佳偶,你全然美丽,毫无瑕疵。”[6]
§14 Christ honored the marriage relation by making it also a symbol of the union between Him and His redeemed ones. He Himself is the Bridegroom; the bride is the church, of which, as His chosen one, He says, Thou art all fair, My love; there is no spot in thee. {AH 26.2}[6]
§15 应有尽有──围绕亚当的所有事物,都是他所企望的。一切都齐备了。在壮丽的伊甸园中没有罪恶和败坏的迹象。上帝的天使与这对圣洁的夫妇自由亲切地交谈。快乐的飞鸟放声歌唱,赞美它们的创造主。安详的走兽喜乐天真地与亚当和夏娃玩耍,听从他们的话。亚当气宇轩昂,乃是创造主的杰作。(五)
§16 Every Want Was Supplied.--Adam was surrounded with everything his heart could wish. Every want was supplied. There were no sin and no signs of decay in glorious Eden. Angels of God conversed freely and lovingly with the holy pair. The happy songsters caroled forth their free, joyous songs of praise to their Creator. The peaceful beasts in happy innocence played about Adam and Eve, obedient to their word. Adam was in the perfection of manhood, the noblest of the Creators work. {AH 26.3}[7]
§17 他们与创造主之间,并无丝毫阴影的存在。他们认识上帝是他们仁慈之父,而在一切事上,他们的意愿与上帝的旨意都是谐合一致的。因此上帝的圣德就从亚当的品格中反映出来。自然界中的万物都彰显他的荣耀。[8]
§18 Not a shadow interposed between them and their Creator. They knew God as their beneficent Father, and in all things their will was conformed to the will of God. And Gods character was reflected in the character of Adam. His glory was revealed in every object of nature. {AH 26.4}[8]
§19 劳动乃是为人类的幸福而命定的——上帝是爱美的。关于这一点,在他手所作之工中已给予我们无误的凭证了。他为我们的始祖在伊甸栽培了一个美丽的园囿。他使各种参天的树木从地里生长出来,以供应装饰之需。又造出美丽的花朵,珍奇可爱,多彩多姿,散发出馥郁的香气。上帝原已定意要人从照料他所创造之物的工作中寻得乐趣,并要以园中树上的果子来满足他的需要。[9]
§20 Labor Was Appointed for Mans Happiness.--God is a lover of the beautiful. He has given us unmistakable evidence of this in the work of His hands. He planted for our first parents a beautiful garden in Eden. Stately trees were caused to grow out of the ground, of every description, for usefulness and ornament. The beautiful flowers were formed, of rare loveliness, of every tint and hue, perfuming the air. . . It was the design of God that man should find happiness in the employment of tending the things He had created, and that his wants should be met with the fruits of the trees of the garden. {AH 27.1}[9]
§21 亚当奉命看守修理乐园。创造主知道亚当若终日无所事事,必不会快乐。园中的佳美情景虽能使他喜悦,但这样还不算十全十美。他必须劳动,使身体各部奇妙的器官得到适当的运动。倘若幸福只在乎休闲,那么人类在圣洁无罪的情况下,就无须从事什么工作了。然而创造人类的主知道人类的幸福所最需要的是什么,因此他创造人类之后,随即就将当作之工指派给他。未来荣耀的应许,以及判定人必须汗流满面才得糊口的命令,乃是从同一个宝座颁布出来的。[10]
§22 To Adam was given the work of caring for the garden. The Creator knew that Adam could not be happy without employment. The beauty of the garden delighted him, but this was not enough. He must have labor to call into exercise the wonderful organs of the body. Had happiness consisted in doing nothing, man, in his state of holy innocence, would have been left unemployed. But He who created man knew what would be for his happiness; and no sooner had He created him than He gave him his appointed work. The promise of future glory, and the decree that man must toil for his daily bread, came from the same throne. {AH 27.2}[10]
§23 上帝因基督化的家庭而得荣耀——凡在自己家中尊上帝为首,并教导自己的儿女明白敬畏主乃是智慧之开端的父母们,由于在世上表现一个井然有序,循规蹈矩的家庭——一个敬爱上帝、顺从上帝而不背叛他的家庭,便是在天使和众人之前归荣耀与上帝了。基督在他们的家中并不是外人,他的圣名是全家人所时常提述的,备受尊崇,大得荣耀。凡是上帝可以全然作主,而子女们也受教尊重宗教,《圣经》和他们的创造主。这样的家庭乃是天使所乐意逗留的地方。这样的家庭才配承受这个应许:“尊重我的,我必重看他。”作父亲的从这样的家庭出发,去履行他日常的义务时,由于与上帝交谈,他便带有一种柔和而顺服的精神了。[11]
§24 God Is Honored by a Christian Home.--Fathers and mothers who make God first in their households, who teach their children that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, glorify God before angels and before men by presenting to the world a well-ordered, well-disciplined family--a family that love and obey God instead of rebelling against Him. Christ is not a stranger in their homes; His name is a household name, revered and glorified. Angels delight in a home where God reigns supreme and the children are taught to reverence religion, the Bible, and their Creator. Such families can claim the promise, Them that honour Me I will honour. As from such a home the father goes forth to his daily duties, it is with a spirit softened and subdued by converse with God. {AH 27.3}[11]
§25 唯有基督的临格才会使世人饱享福乐。人间的一切凡泉俗水,基督都能使之变为天庭的醇醴。因而家园也可化作极乐的伊甸,家庭也就成为天上荣耀的象征了。[12]
§26 The presence of Christ alone can make men and women happy. All the common waters of life Christ can turn into the wine of heaven. The home then becomes as an Eden of bliss; the family, a beautiful symbol of the family in heaven. {AH 28.1}[12]
