§2 Chap. 13—In Heaven One Thousand Years
(4SP 470,471)?{Hvn 116.1}[1]
§4 Wicked Realize Their Lives Have Been A Failure—When the voice of God turns the captivity of His people, there is a terrible awakening of those who have lost all in the great game of life. While probation continued, they were blinded by Satan’s deceptions, and they justified their course of sin. The rich prided themselves upon their superiority to those who were less favored; but they had obtained their riches by violation of the law of God. They had neglected to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to deal justly, and to love mercy. They had sought to exalt themselves, and to obtain the homage of their fellow-creatures. Now they are stripped of all that made them great, and are left destitute and defenseless. They look upon the destruction of the idols which they preferred before their Maker. They sold their souls for earthly riches and enjoyments, and did not seek to become rich toward God. The?result is, their lives are a failure; their pleasures are now turned to gall, their treasures to corruption. The gain of a lifetime is swept away in a moment.—The Spirit of Prophecy 4:470, 471.?{Hvn 116.1}[1]
……{Hvn 117.1}[2]
§6 Wicked Filled With Regret—The wicked are filled with regret, not because of their sinful neglect of God and their fellow men, but because God has conquered. They lament that the result is what it is; but they do not repent of their wickedness. They would leave no means untried to conquer if they could....?{Hvn 117.1}[2]
(GC 654,655){Hvn 117.2}[3]
§8 No language can express the longing which the disobedient and disloyal feel for that which they have lost forever—eternal life. Men whom the world has worshiped for their talents and eloquence now see these things in their true light. They realize what they have forfeited by transgression, and they fall at the feet of those whose fidelity they have despised and derided, and confess that God has loved them.—The Great Controversy, 654, 655.?{Hvn 117.2}[3]
{Hvn 117.3}[4]
§10 Wicked Destroyed; Earth Desolate—At the coming of Christ the wicked are blotted from the face of the whole earth—consumed with the spirit of His mouth, and destroyed by the brightness of His glory. Christ takes His people to the city of God, and the earth is emptied of its inhabitants. “Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.” “The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled; for the Lord hath spoken this word.” “Because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.?{Hvn 117.3}[4]
{Hvn 118.1}[5]
§12 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate; therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned.” [Isaiah 24:1, 3, 5, 6.]?{Hvn 118.1}[5]
{Hvn 118.2}[6]
§14 The whole earth appears like a desolate wilderness. The ruins of cities and villages destroyed by the earthquake, uprooted trees, ragged rocks thrown out by the sea or torn out of the earth itself, are scattered over its surface, while vast caverns mark the spot where the mountains have been rent from their foundations. Here is to be the home of Satan with his evil angels for a thousand years. Here he will be confined, to wander up and down over the broken surface of the earth, and see the effects of his rebellion against the law of God. For a thousand years he can enjoy the fruit of the curse which he has caused. Limited alone to the earth, he will not have the privilege of ranging to other planets, to tempt and annoy those who have not fallen.?{Hvn 118.2}[6]
{Hvn 118.3}[7]
§16 During this time, Satan suffers extremely. Since his fall his life of intense activity has banished reflection; but he is now deprived of his power, and left to contemplate the part which he has acted since first he rebelled against the government of Heaven, and to look forward with trembling and terror to the dreadful future, when he must suffer for all the evil that he has done, and be punished for the sins that he has caused to be committed.?{Hvn 118.3}[7]
(4SP 474,475){Hvn 118.4}[8]
§18 Shouts of triumph ascend from the angels and the redeemed saints, that they are to be no more annoyed and tempted by Satan, and that the inhabitants of other worlds are delivered from his presence and temptations.—The Spirit of Prophecy 4:474, 475.?{Hvn 118.4}[8]
(SR. 415){Hvn 119.1}[9]
§20 My attention was again directed to the earth. The wicked had been destroyed, and their dead bodies were lying on its surface. The wrath of God in the seven last plagues had been visited upon the inhabitants of the earth, causing them to gnaw their tongues from pain and to curse God. The false shepherds had been the signal objects of Jehovah’s wrath. Their eyes had consumed away in their holes, and their tongues in their mouths, while they stood upon their feet. After the saints had been delivered by the voice of God, the wicked multitude turned their rage upon one another. The earth seemed to be deluged with blood, and dead bodies were from one end of it to the other.—The Story of Redemption, 415.?{Hvn 119.1}[9]
{Hvn 119.2}[10]
§22 Judgment of Wicked—During the thousand years between the first and the second resurrection the judgment of the wicked takes place. The apostle Paul points to this judgment as an event that follows the second advent. “Judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts.”?1 Corinthians 4:5.?{Hvn 119.2}[10]
{Hvn 119.3}[11]
§24 Daniel declares that when the Ancient of Days came, “judgment was given to the saints of the Most High.”?Daniel 7:22.?{Hvn 119.3}[11]
{Hvn 119.4}[12]
§26 At this time the righteous reign as kings and priests unto God. John in the Revelation says: “I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them.” “They shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.”?Revelation 20:4, 6.?{Hvn 119.4}[12]
{Hvn 119.5}[13]
§28 It is at this time that, as foretold by Paul, “the saints shall judge the world.”?1 Corinthians 6:2. In union with?Christ they judge the wicked, comparing their acts with the statute book, the Bible, and deciding every case according to the deeds done in the body. Then the portion which the wicked must suffer is meted out, according to their works; and it is recorded against their names in the book of death.?{Hvn 119.5}[13]
(GC 660,661){Hvn 120.1}[14]
§30 Satan also and evil angels are judged by Christ and His people.—The Great Controversy, 660, 661.?{Hvn 120.1}[14]
(EW 291)。{Hvn 120.2}[15]
§32 Satan’s Punishment Commensurate With His Guilt—Satan also and his angels were judged by Jesus and the saints. Satan’s punishment was to be far greater than that of those whom he had deceived. His suffering would so far exceed theirs as to bear no comparison with it. After all those whom he had deceived had perished, Satan was still to live and suffer on much longer.—Early Writings, 291.?{Hvn 120.2}[15]
{Hvn 120.3}[16]
§34 Satan Banished—Now the event takes place foreshadowed in the last solemn service of the Day of Atonement. When the ministration in the holy of holies had been completed, and the sins of Israel had been removed from the sanctuary by virtue of the blood of the sin offering, then the scapegoat was presented alive before the Lord; and in the presence of the congregation the high priest confessed over him “all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat.”?Leviticus 16:21.?{Hvn 120.3}[16]
(GC 658){Hvn 120.4}[17]
§36 In like manner, when the work of atonement in the heavenly sanctuary has been completed, then in the presence of God and heavenly angels and the hosts of the redeemed?the sins of God’s people will be placed upon Satan; he will be declared guilty of all the evil which he has caused them to commit. And as the scapegoat was sent away into a land not inhabited, so Satan will be banished to the desolate earth, an uninhabited and dreary wilderness.—The Great Controversy, 658.?{Hvn 120.4}[17]
